As a designer, I find myself obsessed with type, simplicity, logos, color palette's etc. and this dude is one of the best at all of the above. I had a fantastic mentor back in my advertising days and he said, find good stuff and copy it. I was extremely against this idea... I'm not a hack, I don't copy, that's disrespectful... My mentor shook his head and said, "Chris, you won't even come close" and boy was he right. I get it now after 10+ years of "wanna be-ing". It's tough to find that hard line of over-designing and creating a beautiful piece that looks simple but every weight, color, pt size, piece of type is strategically placed. Watch and be happy.
Draplin's Skillshare video introduction to his course for Logo Design that you all need to take IMMEDIATELY (Voice of god angry saying "IMMEDIATELY")
Although he makes his home in Portland, Oregon, Aaron Draplin is more a product of being born, raised, and educated in the Midwest. A native of Detroit, he studied graphic design at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design before heading out west to work as art director of Snowboarder magazine.
Documentarian: Jared Eberhardt. We meet Aaron Draplin at his day job as a designer at his studio, Draplin Design Company in Portland, Oregon. The tour quickly devolves into a discussion of his vast collections of well-organized junk, and includes a trip to an estate sale where Aaron picks up an ancient bag of peanut butter chips.
