Major Ad agencies in Belgium have joined efforts to get a message across to clients, "Ideas pitched are not yours unless you pay us". All too often agencies pitch work, get denied the business, and then see their ideas performed by the client 3 months later. Within my five years of advertising experience, I have seen this happen three times. Although this is a bummer, it is how it is. Ad agencies will always gripe, but the clients hold the money. And if an agency chooses not to pitch, there are endless agencies that will be right behind them to offer their services.
A group of agencies that formed a union type community called the ACC (the Association of Communication Companies), a self-regulating body whose goal is to “upgrade, promote and defend the profession (creative communication)”. All the agencies involved have taken down their sites with a manifesto they created. The manifesto will remain up for a week. This is interesting, but more of a PR stint. They have Digital Tchotchke's attention, but than again we are on their side.
